DESCRIPTION:Many studies have pointed to a coherent motion perception defi
cit in autism spectrum conditions (ASC). We examine this deficit in light
of electrophysiological research on the neural circuit that integrates mot
ion signals towards a perceptual decision (Shadlen\, 1996). An essential f
eature of this bounded accumulation is time: it takes time for initial var
iability in motion evidence to stabilize and reach a critical decision bou
nd. As a result\, parametric variation of viewing duration is a key experi
mental manipulation for uncovering the roots of coherent motion perception
deficits in ASC. Preliminary fMRI analyses of an event-related study exa
mining motion integration in ASC will also be discussed.
