DESCRIPTION:The fifth William Pitt seminar\, _Geopolitics: crisis and chan
 ge_\, will be held in the Queen's Building\, Emmanuel College\, at 4 pm on
  Friday 15 October 2010\, followed at 8 pm by dinner in Pembroke.\nThe sem
 inar will be chaired by Mr James Naughtie\, the well-known broadcaster\, a
 nd will cover the following three areas/topics:\n\n* Historical: how the w
 orld has arrived at its current political state\n* Failure to deal on a Eu
 ropean scale with major problems as they emerge\n* The shift of power and 
 influence from West to East\, focussing on emerging economies\n\nThe speak
 ers will be:\n\n* Mr Robert Cooper\, Director-General for External and Pol
 itico-Military Affairs at the General Secretariat of the Council of the Eu
 ropean Union\n* Hon. Alexander Downer\, formerly Australian Foreign Minist
 er who will give a 'Pacific Rim' view\n* Dr Stefan Halper\, University of 
 Cambridge\, former US Presidential Advisor\, whose research interests rema
 in centred on US foreign and national security issues and international se
 curity matters. \n* Professor Brendan Simms\, University of Cambridge\, Pr
 ofessor in the History of International Relations\, who will provide a his
