DESCRIPTION:In 2004\, on behalf of Pearson Assessment\, The Psychometrics
Centre conducted an anglicisation and UK standardisation of the 4th Revisi
on of the Clinical Evaluation of\nLanguage Fundamentals (CELF-IV) and of t
he 2nd Edition of CELF Preschool\, both\nwidely used tests of language abi
lities for children between the ages of 3 and 16 years.\nThe project invol
ved the administration of the tests to 1400 children within this age\nrang
e across the UK. The CELF was designed to identify children and young adul
ts\nwho lack the basic foundations of content and form that characterize m
ature language\nuse. CELF norms today provide quantitative support for det
 ermining a child's\neligibility for services\, classification\, and follow
-up decisions. The construction of\ntests such as the CELF involves the ap
plication of the basic psychometric principles\nof reliability\, validity\
, standardization and equivalence. The challenges that each of\nthese pres
ent to the assessment of speech and language will be the subject of this\n
 seminar.
