DESCRIPTION:Globally only 15% of oyster reefs remain\, primarily due to ov
erfishing. In the US a wild fishery is maintained in many states\, directl
y along side vast (and small) restoration projects. As financial pressures
mount\, the government are starting to ask what the end game should be: h
ow much restoration is enough? It is becoming increasingly recognized that
oyster reefs themselves provide a suite of ecosystem services and are imp
ortant nursery grounds\, and we are seeking to create a framework to set g
oals based on the potential delivery of ecosystem services. I will review
the roll of oysters in an estuary\, the restoration work that is being und
ertaken\, and outline our ongoing quest for the "restoration goal".
