DESCRIPTION:A thermal spectrum of quantum noise radiation from black hole
horizons was the surprizing prediction of Hawking's 1974 calculation. Such
thermal radiation is also predicted from other horizons. At UBC\, we have
carried out an experiment for surface waves in water at the white hole (t
ime reverse of a black hole) analog horizon and have shown experimentally
that the analog of the black hole horizon for such surface waves would al
so produce quantum noise with a thermal spectrum\, increasing our faith in
the robust nature of Hawking's prediction.
