DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:* We have reached a point where the whole of the bui
lt environment has been claimed as the historic environment and all develo
pment is subject to the standards of sustainability. At the same time\, ur

s into the body of urban morphological theory to explore the substance of
urban design and find new points of reference for debate and new sources o
f energy and impetus for design. \n\n*Biography:* Karl Kropf is a Director
of urban design at studio | REAL and a member of the Urban Morphology Res
earch Group at the University of Birmingham. He also teaches a module at O
xford Brookes University on using the built environment as a design resour

ce and using one to inform the other. Kropf co-edited the book Theories an
