DESCRIPTION:A key question concerning the evolution of galaxies within the
\nconcordance cosmological framework is how this evolution is modulated by
 \nthe broader environment of a galaxy\, i.e. the interaction of galaxies\n
with their dark matter haloes\, and the location of galaxies within the\nc
osmic web of large-scale filaments and voids in the Universe. I will\npres
ent new results from an observational survey of galaxies in groups\non the
dependence of galaxy properties on halo mass and large-scale\nenvironment
 al density\, and a comparison with hydrodynamical numerical\nsimulations t
hat guide us towards an understanding of the physical\nprocesses that shap
e the galaxy population that we observe today.\n
