DESCRIPTION:In February 2009\, the EU Directive 2008/101/EC on the inclusi
 on of aviation activities in the EU emissions trading scheme came into for
 ce. From 2012 onwards\, CO2 allowances will be required for virtually all 
 international and domestic flights landing at and departing from any airpo
 rt in the EU. In the talk\, an overview on the factors determining CO2 emi
 ssions in aviation will be presented. The effects of the inclusion of avia
 tion into the EU ETS on airline costs\, airfares and competition will be s
 hown\, based on an empirical model developed by DLR.		\n
