DESCRIPTION:The presentation reports the methodology and results of an one
-way\ncoupling of the E3 Model at the Global level (E3MG) model to the\ngl
obal atmospheric chemistry model\, p-TOMCAT\, to assess the effects on\nth
e concentrations of polluting atmospheric gases over Mexico of a\nlow-GHG
scenario compared to an alternative reference case with higher\nuse of fos
sil fuels to 2050.The results suggest that in the conditions\nof underempl
oyment in Mexico\, substantial investment in low-carbon\ntechnologies\, su
ch as electric vehicles\, heat pumps and geo-thermal\npower\, could improv
e employment prospects\, maintain growth\, as well as\nreduce some of the
risks associated with prospective falls in oil\nrevenues. The concentratio
ns of low-level ozone\, both for Mexico-only\nand global decarbonisation s
cenarios relative to the original\nreference case\, show appreciable reduc
tions\, sufficient to bring\nconcentrations close to the WHO guideline lev
els. An indication is\ngiven of the potential scale of the benefits on hum
 an health in Mexico\nCity
