DESCRIPTION:Professor Denis Weaire FRS (PhD Cavendish Lab 1968) held until
  recently the chair of Natural and Experimental Philosophy at Trinity Coll
 ege Dublin. He will assume the role of his most distinguished predecessor\
 , George Francis Fitzgerald\, in the year 1900\, speaking of the Maxwellia
 n revoluition in physics and its great consequences -  in particular his i
 nterpretation of the Hertz experiment (1887). It ushered in the age of rad
 io communication that is still shaping our lives.\n\nWeaire is currently b
 est known for the conception of the Weaire-Phelan (foam) structure\, used 
 as the basis for the design of the Water Cube in the Beijing Olympics.
