DESCRIPTION:We give a few examples of stochastic networks problems (in tra
 nsport\, renewable energy\, and communications) in which load balancing mi
 ght be of interest. We then discuss load balancing in a call center model 
 in some detail\, and point out that (surprisingly!) instantaneous load bal
 ancing can lead to instability in that setting.\n\nThe call center model i
 s joint work with Sasha Stolyar of Bell Labs (Murary Hill\, NJ).
