DESCRIPTION:The theory of Witt groups can be viewed as a variant\nof algeb
 raic K-theory whose relation with KO-theory\nis similar to that of algebra
 ic and topological K-theory.\nI will discuss examples of smooth complex va
 rieties\nfor which the Witt groups are completely determined\nby the KO-gr
 oups and indicate how this leads\nto new calculations.
