 urphy Gallery\, Cripps Court\n\nShort biography: Born in London in 1943\, 
 Michael Grade was educated at Stowe and St Dunstan’s College. After work
 ing as a sports columnist on the Daily Mirror\, he was appointed joint MD 
 of the London Management talent agency. In 1973\, he became Head of Entert
 ainment and Director of Programmes at LWT \, leaving in 1981 to become Pre
 sident of Embassy Television in the USA . He moved back to London in 1984 
 to join the BBC \, first as Controller of BBC1 \, then as Director of Prog
 rammes in 1986 and Managing Director BBC Television Designate in 1987. Mic
 hael Grade left the BBC in 1987 to become Chief Executive of Channel 4\, a
  post he held for almost 10 years. He left in 1997 to become Chairman and 
 Chief Executive of The First Leisure Corporation. He became Chairman of Pi
 newood Shepperton Film Studios Plc in 2000\, and of the national lottery o
 perator Camelot. In 2004\, Michael Grade relinquished the Chairmanship of 
 Camelot to become Chairman of the BBC Board of Governors. He left the BBC 
 in 2007 to become Executive Chairman of ITV Plc\, a post he held until the
