 o disease - Julio Saez-Rodriguez (EBI)

DESCRIPTION:Cells are equipped with complex molecular networks that proces
s\nexternal information\, allowing cells to react to their environment.\nD
eregulation of this signal transduction system is involved in the\ndevelop
ment of a variety of diseases such as diabetes and cancer. In\nmy talk I w
ill discuss how to study these molecular networks using a\ncombination of
  high-throughput proteomics and mathematical modelling.\nAs a case study\,
I will show an application to hepatocellular\ncarcinoma\, the most frequ
ent form of liver cancer. Mathematical\nmodels specific for healthy liver
cells and hepatocellular carcinoma\ncell lines were generated and compare
d\, revealing three key\ndifferences in the wiring of their signalling pat
hways. These\ndifferences are potential targets for new therapies.
