DESCRIPTION:Jesus College's Media Society\n\nTerence Davies is one of the 
 most distinctive film-makers currently\nworking in the UK. His recent 'doc
 umentary-poem'\, 'Of Time and the City'\,\nmet with tremendous success whe
 n it was shown in Cannes and film festivals\naround the world in 2008. His
  earlier features - 'Trilogy'\,'Distant\nVoices\, Still Lives' and 'The Lo
 ng Day Closes' - commonly explore his\nupbringing in working-class Liverpo
 ol combining violence with fragile\nbeauty. He also\nadapted 'The Neon Bib
 le' and Edith Wharton's 'The House of Mirth'\n(starring Gillian Anderson) 
 for film. He is currently involved in shooting\nhis latest feature 'The De
 ep Blue Sea' with Rachel Weisz and Simon Russell\nBeale. Terence will be d
 iscussing\, amongst many things\, his influences\,\nhis special engagement
  with Liverpool\, the role of 'pastness' in his\nfilms\, as well as his tr
 aining as a director.
