DESCRIPTION:What can be done to address the issue of the purposes of publi
 c exams better? Why\, for example\, do students have to take GCSEs\, Engli
 sh language exams\, A levels\, Diplomas\, and vocational assessments? Can 
 we balance the differing needs of those who are stakeholders in these asse
 ssment systems? This seminar\, and the following four seminars\, will addr
 ess such questions in the light of currently live issues in the world of e
 xamining and educational assessment. Participants will be asked to share t
 heir own experiences and perceptions\, and to reflect on those of others.
