DESCRIPTION:Significant progress has been made in recent years on the deve
lopment of gravitational wave (GW) observatories searching for signals fro
m astrophysical sources such as coalescing compact binary systems\, stella
r collapses and pulsars.\n\nA review of recent science runs from the curre
nt generation of ground-based detectors will be discussed\, in addition to
highlighting the astrophysical results gained thus far.\n\nThis will be f
ollowed by discussion of the major upgrades to the LIGO (Advanced LIGO)\,
Virgo (Advanced Virgo)\, and GEO600 (GEO-HF) instruments now underway whic
h will be completed over the coming years\, in addition to the planned new
Japanese detector 'LCGT'. Beyond this\, the concept and design of possib
le future "third generation" gravitational wave detectors\, such as the Ei
nstein Telescope (ET)\, will be discussed.
