DESCRIPTION:Although there is little doubt that gravitational waves exist
and carry energy as they propagate\, it has been notoriously difficult to
explain where in spacetime this energy resides. I will motivate and derive
a new framework for localising the energy and momentum of the linearised
gravitational field\, based on the local exchange of energy-momentum betwe
en matter and\ngravity. The gauge ambiguity of the description is removed\
, mostly as a natural consequence of the derivation\, and partly by consid
ering the\nenergy-momentum transferred onto an infinitesimal detector. I w
ill also show that this gravitational energy-density is always positive\,
 and never flows\nfaster than light.
