SUMMARY:Ground-based and aircraft LIF systems using thermal dissociation t
echniques: instrument description and field campaigns results - Dr Piero D

DESCRIPTION:At the Centre of Excellence CETEMPS of the University of L’A
quila (Italy) we developed a Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) for direct m
easurements of NO2 and measurements of Peroxy Nitrates\, Alkyl Nitrates an
d HNO3\, after thermal dissociation into NO2. The LIF system\, unique in E
urope at the moment\, was deployed in the Borneo forest during the OP3 cam
paign (2007) and installed on the BAE-146 aircraft of the FAAM. In summer
2010 the LIF was used to make observations on board the BAE-146 for the RO
NOCO campaign. In this seminar will be illustrated the LIF technique\, the
development of the instrument and some tests. Results of recent ground-ba
sed and aircraft campaigns will be shown\, together with future possible a
pplications of the LIF technique for the observation of other species and
possible contribution to answer some of the open questions on the atmosphe
ric chemistry and atmospheric compositions changes.
