SUMMARY:Superconductor proximity effects in half-metallic ferromagnets - P
 rof Piet Brouwer\, FU Berlin

DESCRIPTION:Because of the complete absence of minority carriers in a half
metal\,\nAndreev reflection is not possible at the interface between a ha
lf metal and an s-wave superconductor\, unless the spin-rotation symmetry
around the magnetization axis in the half metal is broken. In that case An
dreev reflection can take place through the "triplet proximity effect"\, f
irst predicted by Bergeret\, Volkov and Efetov. In this talk\, I'll consid
er the effectiveness of various sources of the spatially nonuniform magnet
ization and discuss differences between serial and lateral contacts betwee
n the half metal and the superconductor. In particular\, I show a lateral
half-metal--superconductor contact may become a perfect triplet Andreev re
flector and that the system supports localized Majorana end states in this
  limit.\n\n
