DESCRIPTION:Jennifer L. Rohn was born in Stow\, Ohio\, received a BA in Bi
 ology summa cum laude from Oberlin College in 1990\, and a PhD in Microbio
 logy from the University of Washington\, Seattle in 1996. She moved to Lon
 don for post-doctoral scientific training and then to Amsterdam\, the Neth
 erlands\, for a stint in a start-up biotech. She is currently on staff as 
 an academic cell biologist at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biolog
 y at University College London.\n\nAn avid reader\, Jenny had always wonde
 red why there were so few scientist characters in mainstream literature. W
 hile living in Amsterdam\, she wrote two novels about scientists – the f
 irst of which\, Experimental Heart\, was inspired by her exploits as a you
 ng cancer researcher in London and was published by Cold Spring Harbor Lab
 oratory Press\, New York in 2008. Her upcoming second novel\, The Honest L
 ook\, is set in a start-up biotech company in the Netherlands and is due t
 o be published by CSHL Press on 19th November\, 2010.\n\nJenny coined the 
 term 'lab lit' to describe such novels and in 2005 launched the website La
 bLit.com to help promote the use of science and scientist characters in ma
 instream fiction and to illuminate the world of scientists and laboratory 
 culture. In addition to her activities as a practicing scientist and novel
 ist\, Jenny is also a part-time science writer and journalist\, broadcaste
 r and sci-lit-art pundit. Her writing has appeared in a number of places i
 ncluding BBC news\, Nature and The Scientist\, and she has also appeared o
 n TV\, BBC radio\, in podcasts including The Guardian's\, and as an expert
  in science films. Her short fiction has appeared in Nature and The Human 
 Genre Project\, and she blogs about the scientific life at Mind The Gap.
