SUMMARY:Effects of turbulence on the ignition of flames. - Prof. Epaminond
as Mastorakos\, Department of Engineering\, University of Cambridge

DESCRIPTION:The ignition (autoignition or spark ignition) of flames of gas
eous or liquid fuels is important for a great variety of technological app
lications such as diesel engines and gas turbines. The seminar will focus
on how turbulent mixing and fluid mechanical strain rate can affect these
processes and on how such effects can be controlled. Large-eddy simulation
s of ignition will also be discussed.
