DESCRIPTION:As an application of gauge gravity duality it has been propose
d that a transition between black holes in AdS carrying a certain kind of
scalar hair and black holes without such hair could be useful in describin
g the superconducting instabilities of strongly correlated quantum critica
l theories\nin condensed matter physics (I will define what these are in m
y talk). This suggestion has sparked a fair amount of recent work and I wi
ll aim to give an\noverview of the subject with a view on so-called top-do
wn realisations\, which embed the basic models into an M-theoretic framewo
rk\, often with interesting\nphysical consequences in particular in the lo
w-temperature regime of the quantum-critical phase diagram.
