DESCRIPTION:Nuclear transplantation to eggs and oocytes can reprogram soma
tic cell nuclei from an adult pattern of gene expression to that character
istic of embryos. This is the first stage of a procedure by which replace
ment cells can be formed from adult cells of the same individual\, thereby
eliminating the need for immunosuppression. A central aim of recent work
in this field is to analyze the mechanisms by which eggs and ooctyes can
rejuvenate a cell from an adult to an embryonic state.
