DESCRIPTION:Energy Piles present an efficient solution for long-term carbo
n emission reduction and sustainable construction. However\, they have rec
eived partial acceptance by industry. The major concern is on the impact o
f cyclic thermal changes on the serviceability of energy pile foundations.
In addition\, the evidence of successful long-term operation of energy pi
le systems has been anecdotal\, and there is no design tool available to s
upport their safe usage. A hybrid load transfer model has been applied to
investigate the load-settlement behavior of the single energy pile during
thermal energy exchange processes. Back-analysis results in terms of the t
hermal and mechanical response of energy piles show good agreement with fi
eld test results from Lambeth College in London.
