DESCRIPTION:Brauer algebras arose from a generalisation of classical Schur
-Weyl duality between symmetric and general linear groups to two other cla
ssical groups\, and have recently received a surge in interest. One key fe
ature of Brauer algebras is their close relationship with symmetric groups
. In this talk I will review the definition of the Brauer algebra and some
symmetric group representation theory. I will then describe some simple m
odules for the Brauer algebra with parameter two over any algebraically cl
osed field of characteristic not two. Time permitting\, some characteristi
c two results are discussed. If possible I will also mention the Brauer al
 gebra with parameter minus two.\n
