DESCRIPTION:The deficiency of a finite presentation is the number of gener
 ators minus the number of relators. We say a group is large if it has a fi
 nite index subgroup which surjects onto the non-abelian free group of rank
  2. \n\nThere are several results in the literature linking deficiency and
  largeness. We will go over some of these results and see how a modificati
 on of deficiency may be used to study the largeness of presentations which
  have proper power relators.\n
