 ir Dotsenko (Trinity\, Dublin)

DESCRIPTION:This talk is about algebraic approaches to several topics in t
he\ncombinatorics of pattern avoidance\, from the classical question of\na
voiding a fixed\nset of word patterns to questions of pattern avoidance in
trees\, a new\nconcept that was motivated by study of algebraic operads.
The model\nexample I\nshall discuss in most detail is halfway between thos
 e two\, that is\nconsecutive pattern avoidance for permutations. Namely\,
 I shall\nexplain how can use\nhomology of ``shuffle algebras'' to obtain r
esults in enumerative\ncombinatorics. The talk is partly based on a joint
 work with\nA.Khoroshkin (ETH Zurich).\n
