 o emigrated to France after the Revolution\, but unlike the majority of hi
 s contemporaries\, he continued to solely produce paintings of the Russian
  peasant life of his youth\, without exploring new ideas and subject matte
 r. This paper will consider the case of Maliavin's large-scale painting of
  a troika of 1933 which not only provided a fresh approach to an image ing
 rained within Russian visual culture but also depicted a peasant lifestyle
 \, which\, by then\, had been\ndestroyed by Stalin's forced collectivisati
 on.\n
