DESCRIPTION:The extension of the inverse scattering transform\, due to Fok
 as\, can be used to for a variety of problems and purposes. I will discuss
   two examples: an application to the study of some non-self-adjoint linea
 r operators\, and the explicit solution  of a class of boundary value prob
 lems for the most important nonlinear elliptic integrable PDE\,  the so-ca
 lled elliptic sine-Gordon equation.
