DESCRIPTION:We present a new treatment for the spin of relativistic partic
les in the context of quantum information based on a physical interpretati
on of the Wigner rotations\, which specify the change of the spin state of
a particle with a change of reference frame\, obtaining different results
in relation to the previous works. We are lead to the conclusion that som
e assumptions made by most of the previous papers on the subject\, namely
the possibility of a momentum-spin separation of the system and the use of
the Pauli-Lubanski (or similar) spin operators to describe spin measureme
nts\, are not consistent. We also propose an experimental test of our form
ulation and discuss its implications for the violation of Bell's inequalit
 ies with relativistic particles.
