DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered about the origins of pupil voice and children's 
 participation in decision making in education ? Colin Ward (1924-2010)thro
 ugh his many books and other publications became influential voice in enco
 uraging new ways of thinking about childhood and education that considered
  the importance of environment in development\, the significance of free-p
 lay and recognised children as capable agents in their own learning cultur
 es. His contribution was wide and varied but his two key books on childhoo
 d\, The Child in the City and The Child in the Country are most often cite
 d. The Bulletin of Environmental Education which Ward co-edited with Tony 
 Fyson is best remembered by teachers.\n\nThis event\, which has attracted 
 a range of speakers from the USA\, Europe and the UK will celebrate Colin'
 s work and recognize his continuing influence among scholars today working
  on a wide range of research areas that derive inspiration from his work.\
