DESCRIPTION:Combining atom chips with novel fiber-based microcavities\ngiv
 es unprecedented control over light-matter coupling at the\nsingle-atom\, 
 single-photon level. I will present experiments\nshowing the collective co
 upling of a Bose-Einstein condensate\nto the cavity field and the optical 
 detection of an atomic qubit\nwithout spontaneous emission. Future perspec
