DESCRIPTION:What is development? How have different theories since WWII an
 swered this question? Economic growth? Big Society? Big Government? Sustai
 nability? Perhaps none of these. Development is in its essence a concept t
 hat cannot be grasped without serious thought about justice and human valu
 es. Global Common Good is a concept where justice is not merely about inst
 itutions but also about everyday judgements and practices. It is increasin
 gly accepted that the old division of the world into developed and develop
 ing countries is entirely misleading. New ways of thinking about developme
 nt\, about how societies work towards the common good and they cultivate c
 itizenship should be mainstreamed into development policies.
