DESCRIPTION:Dasher's normal model of an alphabet does not adapt straightfo
rwardly to Mandarin: The alphabet is many times larger than for European l
anguages\, and unordered. MandarinDasher tackles this problem by the use o
f a separate phonetic alphabet\, but this is many-to-many with the symbols
of the Chinese alphabet. I'll try to explain\n(a) the background\, and th
e solution developed by Will Zhou\, with some more recent improvements\;\n
 (b) the resulting framework for defining languages\; in particular I'd be
interested to hear suggestions for further applications.\n\n(Some of this
material has been previously presented by Will Zhou.)\n\n***RESCHEDULED FR
