DESCRIPTION:Each year examination boards and awarding bodies have to cope
with negative perceptions of the working of the examinations process in th
e press and among their stakeholders. Is this a situation which people can
accept? Or is a general questioning of the professionalism of the boards
undermining the national exam system? Have the awarding bodies made any im
pact on public perceptions by their greater transparency and by aligning t
heir practices and procedures to public regulation? Perhaps this agenda sh
ould include more discussion of the meaning of the term ‘measurement err
or’\, but will that term be unhelpfully misunderstood? Could there be mo
re ways in which awarding bodies could work with their stakeholders to inc
rease public trust in the judgements made by examiners and assessors?\n\nD
