DESCRIPTION:The government in England has specified that the national curr
 iculum for primary and secondary education in England will be organised as
  subjects. The programmes of study for the “key subjects” of English\,
  maths\, science and physical education are currently the focus for the fi
 rst phase of a public consultation. This consultation is also asking which
  other subjects should be included in the national curriculum: for example
 \, should music be a subject in the national curriculum\, or ICT? \n\nProf
 essor Mary James\, who is a member of the national curriculum review exper
 t panel\, will be sharing her expertise with participants at the seminar.
 We invite all members of the faculty to discuss the implications of the go
 vernment’s proposals with a view to producing a response. \n\nIt is inte
 nded that the seminar will be an open discussion about the national curric
 ulum but we also welcome five minute presentations from participants. Plea
 se contact Dominic Wyse (bdw28@cam.ac.uk) if you would like to present. \n
 \nIn preparation for the seminar it would be ideal if participants could c
 omplete the online consultation as a way to update on the key issues and t
 o influence this important process (http://www.education.gov.uk/consultati
 ons/index.cfm?action=consultationDetails&consultationId=1730&external=no&m
 enu=1). \n\nALL WELCOME! \nPlease email Lyndsay Upex (lju20@cam.ac.uk) to
 register your attendance so that we have an idea of numbers for catering\n
