DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce that *Clive Hamilton* will be the
  guest speaker at our AGM this year\, he will be exploring climate change 
 denial and its implications.\n\nClive is the author of a number of best-se
 lling books\, including *Growth Fetish*\, *Affluenza: when too much is nev
 er enough*\, *The Freedom Paradox* and\, most recently\, *Requiem for a Sp
 ecies: Why we resist the truth about climate change*.\n\nGrowth Fetish (20
 03) became an Australian best-seller and suggests that the unthinking purs
 uit of economic growth has become a fetish\, which has not led to any real
  improvements in levels of happiness. Affluenza (2005) explores the shallo
 wness of modern consumer life\, arguing that there is an emergence of new 
 types of “alienation and exploitation”\, in the form of ravages of the
  free market\, which have “have robbed life of its meaning”.\n\nClive 
 is Charles Sturt Professor of Public Ethics at the Centre for Applied Phil
 osophy and Public Ethics in Canberra. From 1994 to 2008 he was the Executi
 ve Director of The Australia Institute\, Australia’s leading progressive
  think tank\, which he founded. He has held a number of visiting academic 
 positions\, including at the University of Cambridge\, the University of O
