DESCRIPTION:*LfL and PLACE Academic Group Discussion Seminar*\n\nThe gover
nment in England has specified that the national curriculum for primary an
d secondary education in England will be organised as subjects. The progra
mmes of study for the “key subjects” of English\, maths\, science and
physical education are currently the focus for the first phase of a public
consultation. This consultation is also asking which other subjects shoul
d be included in the national curriculum: for example\, should music be a
subject in the national curriculum\, or ICT ?\n\nProfessor Mary James\, wh
o is a member of the national curriculum review expert panel\, will be sha
ring her expertise with participants at the seminar. We invite all members
of the faculty to discuss the implications of the government’s proposal
s with a view to producing a response.\n\nIt is intended that the seminar
will be an open discussion about the national curriculum but we also welco
me five minute presentations from participants. Please contact Dominic Wys
e (bdw28@cam.ac.uk) if you would like to present.\n\nIn preparation for th
e seminar it would be ideal if participants could complete the online cons
ultation as a way to update on the key issues and to influence this import
 ant process: \n\n(http://www.education.gov.uk/consultations/index.cfm?acti
