  Group Seminar*\n\nLfL is delighted to welcome Jonathan Jansen to Cambridg
 e in April to talk about his experiences in South Africa as the first blac
 k dean of education and what it meant to confront deep seated racism among
  his students and colleagues. His book Knowledge in the Blood: Confronting
  Race and the Apartheid Past is a compelling account of the struggle to ch
 ange his students uncompromising world view but in the process\, as he tri
 ed to see the world through their eyes\, coming to reframe his own underst
 anding. It is a testimony to his humility as a leader that he was able to 
 listen and learn from the most vitriolic of white students and keep alive 
 the dialogue however abhorrent at times those views might be.      \n\nJon
 athan Jansen is Vice-Chancellor and Rector of the University of the Free S
 tate\, Honorary Professor of Education at the University of the Witwatersr
 and and Visiting Fellow at the National Research Foundation\, South Africa
 . He was a Fulbright Scholar to Stanford University (2007-2008)\, former D
 ean of Education at the University of Pretoria (2001-2007)\, and holds Hon
 orary Doctorates from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cl
 eveland\, USA.\n\n
