DESCRIPTION:Nature does a lot for us humans\, much of which we take for gr
anted\, but for\nhow much longer. Economists and ecologists are combining
forces to encourage\nus to put a value on 'ecosystem services'\, as they a
re known in the trade.\nThere are various methods espoused for assigning m
onetary values to these\,\nand such values may carry most political weight
. However\, many people feel\nthis fails to do justice to the type of valu
e nature has for us. The\nassumptions behind the economics can be question
ed and have political\ndimensions. Some values\, eg spiritual ones\, are p
resumably beyond price. How\nshould environmentalists handle this valuable
  territory?\n
