DESCRIPTION:The slice-ribbon conjecture states that a knot in the 3-sphere
  is the boundary of an embedded disc in the 4-ball if and only if it bound
 s\na disc in the 3-sphere which has only ribbon singularities. In this sem
 inar we will prove the conjecture for a family of Montesinos knots. The pr
 oof is\nbased on Donaldson's diagonalization theorem for definite four man
 ifolds.
