DESCRIPTION:The C4 photosynthetic cycle represents a series of biochemical
and anatomical modifications to concentrate CO2 in a specially modified v
ascular bundle sheath to decrease the rates of RuBP oxygenation by RuBisCO
. Targeted gene expression to specific cell types is required if this cycl
e is to operate with any efficiency\, although these mechanisms are not we
ll understood. A potential role for small RNA-mediated regulation has been
explored through direct small RNA profiling combined with inhibition stud
ies in the model C4 species Cleome gynandra.
