DESCRIPTION:Understanding of palaeoclimate proxies is critical for analysi
s of past climate and to provide data to feed into current and future clim
ate models. This project is focussed on developing the use of terrestrial
moss cores extracted from Signy Island\, South Orkneys as proxies for past
environmental conditions. Isotopic analysis of water sources and cellulos
e extracted from throughout the cores\, combined with microclimate data pr
ovides information used to begin interpretation of past growing conditions
