DESCRIPTION:The use of magnetic-field-induced Feshbach resonances between
collisions of ultracold atoms has revolutionized the field of quantum dege
nerate gases\, permitting both the exquisite control of the atomic interac
tions and the coupling of free atoms into weakly bound molecular states. I
n two different Bose-Einstein condensation experiments\, we explore these
complementary avenues of research. The first experiment uses a quantum deg
enerate mixture of Rb and Cs with the goal of creating ultracold heteronuc
lear molecules. The second experiment focuses on the formation of bright m
atter wave solitons using a condensate with attractive interactions and ai
ms to use such solitons to probe the weak forces between an atom and a sur
face. This talk will give an overview of both of these projects highlighti
 ng our recent results.\n\n
