DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:* The real-time city is now real! The increasing dep
 loyment of sensors and hand-held electronics in recent years is allowing a
  new approach to the study of the built environment. The way we describe a
 nd understand cities is being radically transformed – alongside the tool
 s we use to design them and impact on their physical structure.\n\n\n*Biog
 raphy:* Professor Carlo Ratti directs MIT Senseable City Lab at the Massac
 husetts Institute of Technology in Boston\, MA\, and practices architectur
 e in Turin\, Italy. He has authored over 200 publications and holds severa
 l patents. His Digital Water Pavilion at the 2008 World Expo was hailed by
  Time Magazine as one of the Best Inventions of the Year. He has been incl
 uded in Esquire Magazine's Best and Brightest list\, in Blueprint Magazine
 's 25 People who will Change the World of Design and in Forbes Magazine's 
 People you need to know in 2011. Ratti recently served as the inaugural In
 novator in Residence in Queensland\, Australia.\n
