DESCRIPTION:During my working life there have been amazing advances in the
welding of steel and aluminium\, and in the design procedures to improve
the safety and reliability of welded structures. Most have been driven by
large capital projects funded by multinational companies or by Governments
and their Agencies. Some of the most important innovations and milestones
will be discussed as seen from the UK and TWI’s unique central position
in worldwide developments.\n\nWhat are the lessons from this history whic
h can help future developments? The talk will discuss these\, covering fac
tors which encourage creative and innovative thinking\, the beneficial eff
ect of competition at all levels\, and the importance of the right funding
sources to bring new ideas to the market place.\n\n---- A joint meeting w
ith the Eastern Counties branch of the Welding and Joining Society ----\n\
nPlease note\, this event will be held at TWI\, Granta Park\, Great Abingt
