DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, the nature of public engagement has been shi
fting. Alongside well-established means of engaging the public\, new media
technologies have opened up an enormous range of options for communicatin
g far beyond the physical limits of the university. Successful blogs can b
e used to share ideas with a wide public and to tell the ongoing story of
your research in a less formal way than through traditional research paper
 s. Social media can also be a powerful method of establishing professional
contacts\, communicating and collaborating with the public\, and consulti
ng with partners whom you can’t always reach directly\, in person.\n\nTh
e lecture will include advice and experience from Cambridge academics who
have made successful use of blogs and social media\, including Dr Andrew H
olding from *Skeptics in the Pub*. There will also be practical ‘how to
’ guidance on getting your own blog or social network started\, and we w
ill end with a Q&A.\n\nBooking is essential. "Please click here.":http://w
