DESCRIPTION:Electricity generation accounts for one third of all carbon em
issions in the UK. Reducing emissions by increasing the amount of renewabl
e energy sources is therefore essential to achieve a significant reduction
in the UK's carbon emissions and reach the European 2020 energy goals. On
e good source is offshore wind power\, considering the abundance of windy
stretches along the British coastline. Recent developments have already ma
de the UK the world's largest producer of offshore wind power\, but we sti
ll lag behind the proposed targets and its estimated potential. With nucle
ar power facing challenges after the Fukushima disaster\, a solution has t
o be found for future low carbon energy production.\n \nSpeakers and deleg
ates from many of the world’s leading energy and technology companies an
d academic institutions will be present\, with opportunities to network ov
er coffee and lunch breaks during the day. This would be an excellent oppo
rtunity for those interested in sustainable energy to gather and exchange
their most valuable ideas.\n \nThe Cambridge University Energy Network (CU
EN) is a student-run university society and our goal is to bring together
the industrial and academic communities to share their knowledge and inter
est in the generation and consumption of energy. It also serves to promote
a structured\, cross disciplinary approach to teaching and research in su
stainable energy. More information about CUEN can be found "here":http://w
