DESCRIPTION:My general goal is to understand neuronal processing as a func
tion of anatomy in the context of individual connectivity schemes.\nWith a
set of complementary approaches I aim to better understand the relationsh
ip between anatomy\, network connectivity and computation in the brain\, a
nd their underlying mechanisms. Currently\, my main line of research is gr
ounded in a rule defined by Ramón y Cajal stating that neuronal branching
strives to minimize quantities such as amount of cytoplasm\, required spa
ce and conduction time. I have developed a modular growth algorithm implem
enting this rule which turns out to be capable of describing much of how t
 he brain's architecture comes about.\n\nSee http://www.treestoolbox.org/ f
